Coco Chanel once said, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
Applied to this context, I’d say, “Skincare should be two things: effective and satisfying. Effective goes without saying. “Satisfying” because if there’s something you don’t like about any part of the product or process, you’re probably not going to follow through.
If you’re lucky, you find that one product that’s magic for your skin—the one you can’t live without. If you’re diligent, you find a way to piece together a multi-product skincare system you’re happy with.
I’ve gone through phases with many superstar products: Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair (love it), SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic (LOVE it), IS Clinical Youth Complex…
No matter your mashup of products, however, eventually the questions become, how effective is combining products from different skincare lines? Is it more effective to use products from the same brand? (Do they really work better together?) If you have a favorite cleanser/serum/moisturizer, can you use that with another system?
The simple answer is, yes—yes, it is possible to combine products effectively. And the best combinations come from multiple places: personal experience (and preference), professional advice, and sometimes, simple trial and error.
My product du jour is Chanel’s Le Blanc Serum for skin brightening. I find it ideal for post-summer fall and winter skin that could use a discoloration/dullness pick-me-up.
But when you find that one product that you love, how do you choose the others to combine it with? And if you don’t have a system at all, where do you even start?
There are many ways to dig in and parse that mountain of products to begin to make some sense out of it all. One way is by where you find them, for example:
By no means is this list exhaustive, but it’s a pretty good round up, and it’s very likely that you have one or more from each of the three that work for you for any variety of reasons: you like the way it smells, the way it absorbs, how it makes your skin look and/or feel. And once you find something you like, if you’re anything like me, you stick with it. At least until you discover your next wunder product.
While your favorite products may come and go, what’s really key is getting the most out of them. And, yes, I’m about to tell you how to do so. In one word: DefenAge.
DefenAge provides a skincare framework designed to enhance results from other products that target specific skin conditions, including dark spots, fine lines, uneven texture, acne—in exactly the way I’ve incorporated my latest Chanel product.
In this case, my choices are backed up by board-certified dermatologist Natalie M. Curcio, M.D., M.P.H., who shares, “Why do Chanel users like DefenAge? – this is simple – DefenAge’s defensins multiply the effect of Chanel, as well as other skincare.”
Simply put, the defenins in DefenAge stimulate the production of new skin, which in turn allow other skincare products to produce even better results. The science says so (and so will your skin!).
